Lassie

Lassie
This is a beautiful, adorable movie, really well-made, with great performances from distinguished actors like Peter O'Toole, Samantha Morton, and Peter Dinklage. The kids are pretty good too, particularly Hester Odgers as Cilla. Tons of special features explain elements of how the feature was shot, so you can learn how they got the fox to stare into the camera, and how they got Lassie/Mason the Collie to take "abuse" from actors without actually being frightened. This movie might be a little scary in parts for really young children, but I think it's probably OK for second grade and up. It's not just a "cute animal picture," it's also a relatively serious historical film about class differences in Britain on the brink of WW2.
